What Virginia actually asks for
Virginia's Food Regulations (12VAC5-421) follow the FDA Food Code: the person in charge must be able to demonstrate food safety knowledge. A certificate from an ANSI-CFP / ANAB accredited food protection manager program is one of the recognized ways to demonstrate it, and in practice it is what most Virginia Department of Health inspectors, landlords and franchise agreements ask to see. We proctor exactly that kind of exam.
We are not a health department and we don't write the rules. If an inspector handed you a specific requirement, read it to us over the phone — we would rather tell you our exam isn't the right fit than sell you the wrong credential.
