Certificates are issued by Always Food Safe under its ANAB accreditation. Coastal Food Safety Exams is an independent proctor, not the certificate issuer and not a health department. Where testing happens
Online, from anywhere in the US
Every exam is remotely proctored by video, with nothing to schedule. You choose the time and the place — your office, your kitchen, or your home — and open the exam when you are ready.
Location
Any quiet, private room with a door. Take it from your restaurant office after the lunch rush, from home after the kids go to bed, or from a hotel room on the road.
Equipment
A computer or tablet with a webcam, microphone, and reliable internet. Mobile phones are not recommended because of the screen size.
Availability
Open 24/7 with no appointment. Morning, night, weekend, or the same day you register — you never wait for a testing center to open.

What to expect, step by step

Register and get your links
There is nothing to schedule. After you register we email your course access and your personal exam link, usually within a couple of hours, and both stay open until you use them.

Get your workspace ready
You need a quiet room, a reliable internet connection, a working webcam and microphone, and one government-issued photo ID. No notes, phones, books, smart watches, or second screens are allowed in the room.

Start the exam check-in
Open your exam link whenever you are ready. The remote proctoring step verifies your ID, sets up your camera and screen sharing, and asks you to pan the room so the exam space is clear.

Take the exam
The Food Protection Manager exam is 80 questions with a 2 hour limit. Most candidates finish in 60 to 90 minutes. The Food Handler exam is shorter and typically takes about 40 minutes.

Get your result
The exam is scored immediately and your pass or fail result appears on screen as soon as you finish. Once we approve a passing result, your certificate is issued by Always Food Safe and emailed the same day.

If you do not pass
The Food Manager certification includes one free retake. We reopen your exam link and you take the second attempt whenever you are ready.
